A Light Has Dawned: Christmas Eve
A Light Has Dawned: Love
December 24, 2024
Luke 2:8-12 (NIV) 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
God’s presence always changes situations, places, things, and most importantly… people. The change is a transformation from brokenness and emptiness to wholeness and fulfillment. To be made holy is to be made whole in Christ.
Jesus was born into darkness on purpose. Light is always a welcomed change to darkness.
Darkness isn’t only the absence of light, in a spiritual sense, it is an absence of God.
Genesis 1:1-3 (NIV) states “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Light is a beginning of life. Light is a sustainer of life.
John 1:14 (The Message) The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.
Jesus became like us and moved into our neighborhood, our circumstances. Jesus moved into our darkness.
3 Gifts of Christmas Eve
1. God came to us. God comes to us.
3 Gifts of Christmas Eve
1. God came to us. God comes to us.
2. The Light of Christ is the Love of God.
John 3:16-17 (NIV) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Don’t buy the lie that God is an angry despot or a disinterested deity. The birth of Jesus is proof positive that God is fully engaged in our story and fully invested in our restoration.
3 Gifts of Christmas Eve.
1. God came to us. God comes to us.
2. The Light of Christ is the Love of God.
3. The Light of Jesus buries darkness.
Darkness has a built-in limit. Light has no limit.
