Sermon Title: Dryness
John 12:23-25 23 …“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
When God resurrects something dead in our life – it has more life than it did when it was living.
Spiritual Dryness
Our relationship with God is far from mechanical and can’t be reduced to repeat this, do this, stop doing that. Our relationship is organic. We plant and water through sharing, listening, following and most of all loving.
Causes of Spiritual Dryness:
- Neglect
The currency of relationships is TIME. Relationships aren’t measured in their efficiency but in their depth, in their vulnerability, in their trust, in their loyalty and in their love.
- Negligence – Sin - Rebellion
Negligence = “A failure to behave with the level of care that someone of ordinary prudence would have exercised under the same circumstances. The behavior usually consists of actions, but can also consist of omissions when there is some duty to act.
“In rebellion we don’t recognize the impact of the distance between us and God until we do.”
2 Chronicles 7:14“If my people who are called by my name will humble themelves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways I will hear from heaven I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land.”
- God Induced Thirst
Ezekiel 37:1-14 (NIV)
