Becoming and Making Disciples

Sermon Notes

Sermon Title: Becoming and Making Disciples

A disciple isn’t a conformist – they are a “trans-form-ist”.

Matthew 28:16-20 "16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Foundation of Mission:

  1. We have the authority.
  2. It’s a personal and communal mission. disciples. So it was a collective but highly personal mission/call.
  3. It requires movement.

Go With Compassionate Eyes

Matthew 9:35-38. "35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Go With

John 1:14 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
