Seeds: Every Family Tree Begins Somewhere // Walk The Walk, Talk The Talk

Pastor Charlie Weir

Week 1: The Creation Story established these 3 core seed facts.

• Our origin is divine because we were created by God.

You are not junk!

• Our capacity is holy because we were created for God.

You are not damaged goods. You are or can be a redeemed person!

• Our purpose is to carry life and to give life.

Your life has purpose!

Week 2: Roots & Soil

Your family heritage matters: it informs and influences but it doesn’t determine… for the good or the bad. Your right now family tree is more connected to your right now thinking, decisions, choices and actions than it is to your past.

• You can’t change your family history but you can change your family’s present and future.

• You can’t change the soil you were planted in but you can change the composition of the soil you are in right now.

• You can’t change your original root structure but you can put down new (fresh) roots.

Week 3: Family Faith Declaration

• There is no life in being gods. There is no better life than being god’s.

• Declarations forge identity, anchor resolve and chart a course.

• Our declaration is… “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord!”

Week 4: Walk the Walk. Talk the Talk.

1. Lay the Foundation

Deuteronomy 6:1-3 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

Don’t think of obedience as formula for success but as a loving response to relationship and the foundation of favor.

2. Love Completely

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Shema

“The Lord our God, the Lord is one” isn’t an effort to “consolidate God” it is best understood to mean “The Lord our God is Lord alone!”

God’s love for us is layered. Our love towards Him should be layered.

• Love Love – Love is emotional trust. I am yours no matter what.

• Loyalty Love – Loyalty is relational trust. I will stand with you no matter what.

• Obedience Love – Obedience is active trust. I follow you, serve you, no matter what.

• Outward obedience without inward love is compliance. Compliance only works with leverage.

• God doesn’t desire leveraged, coerced love. God desires inward loved expressed through outward actions.

• Inward love never fails. Outward obedience never prevails because it can’t persist.

3. Walk & Talk Incessantly

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

• Impress

• Talk

• Tie

• Bind

• Write

IMPRESS

The basic meaning for the Hebrew “impress” is a “strategic repetition that leaves a mark”.

TALK

Talk about Jesus and His ways and His love and His Kingdom ALL THE TIME! In every situation, in every circumstance!

We have to stand guard and exceed the influential pace and passion of this culture with this generation. The best combatant for prevalent lies is consistent truth wrapped in a consistent relationship.

TIE & BIND

8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

1) What or whom do I most identify with.

2) What or whom most identify me?

Satan wants you to feel shame, God wants you to be shaped.

Our response…

• Passionately embrace the Shema.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

• Formulate and execute a DT6:6-9 plan.

• Ensure your family is planted in good relational soil.
