Fire & Wind: A Summer of Renewal // Introduction
Pastor Charlie Weir
Celebrations are thrown to honor people.
Celebrations are thrown to highlight exceptional achievements.
Celebrations are thrown to commemorate past events.
Celebrations leverage the past for the future.
You know who is really good a planning and throwing celebrations – God.
Celebration #1 Passover
• Passover celebrated Israel’s release from 430 years of Egyptian slavery.
The ultimate win of salvation is relationship.
Celebration #1 Passover
Celebration #2 Weeks/Pentecost
Pentecost Celebrated two significant events in the life of Israel.
The giving of the Law on Mount Sinai
The barley harvest
The Significance of the Harvest
• Harvest = Completion and Provision
Peter is a testimony of what’s possible when the renewing power of the Holy Spirit rushes into your life.
The Significance of the Law
• Guide for Identity
• Guide for Relationship & Worship
• Guide for Living
The Law was only meant to be temporary bridge to relationship with God.
The cross would be the permanent bridge to relationship.
The Holy Spirit was given as the Agent to shape our God identity, supply power for life and purpose.
We can’t become all whom we have been freed to become without the powerful, abiding and guiding presence of the Holy Spirit. Just like we need freedom from sin, initiated for us at Easter/Passover in Christ, we need the presence and power of God through the Holy Spirit initiated at Pentecost.
The Holy Spirit is not a force to employ, He is a person to embrace.
Embrace the person and the power necessary for life and mission will follow.

The Holy Spirit as God
Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
