Father's Day: The Heart & Blessing of Our Heavenly Father

The Heart & Blessing of Our Heavenly Father

If you wonder why life feels so hard and why our responsibilities feel so heavy it is because we have mixed up our primary role in life. We are sons and daughters before we are men and women and mothers and fathers.

Psalm 103

Praise the Father, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Father, my soul, and forget not all his benefitswho forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Father works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: The Father is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so The Father has compassion on those who fear him; 14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. 15 The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; 16 the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. 17 But from everlasting to everlasting the Fathers love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— 18 with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. 19 The Father has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. 20 Praise the Father, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. 21 Praise the Father, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. 22 Praise the Father, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Father, my soul.

Satan’s objective is to obscure and/or obliterate your son/daughter connection with God the Father.

Hurt people hurt people. Broken people break people. Whole people heal people.

God is our Father more than He is our fixer.

Matthew 6:9-13
9

“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

“‘Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name…”

Our Perfect and Powerful Father who we approach in complete confidence of receiving mercy and grace…”

God Our Father is Safe.

We have a heavenly Father who wants to talk and play! You can trust God as a safe Father!

“…your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Break into my present darkness with your rule and reign circumventing the power that is trying to destroy something and someone under your spiritual jurisdiction.

God our Father is a Protective Father.

You can trust God your Father to protect your present and your future!

“Give us today our daily bread”

I acknowledge you as my Provider – you are better at it than I am. Give me the strength and wisdom to work with you and not against you.

God our Father is a Providing Father.

Matthew 6:33

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”

You can trust God our Father as a Provider.

“…And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”

Forgive me of the times that I rebel against your standard of holiness and hurt you, and I will use that grace to inform and resource my forgiveness to those who don’t measure up to my standards and hurt me.

God is a Forgiving Father.

“Our understanding of Christianity cannot be better than our grasp of adoption…of all the gifts of grace adoption is the highest.” Theologian JI Packer

You can trust God our Father to forgive you!

“…And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Lead me in the direction of life because sometimes I am drawn to the shiny things that lead to death, and save me from the effects of this evil age, the evil one lying in wait for me and the evil circumstances I find myself in right now.

God Our Father is a Leader.

We can trust God our Father to lead us.

Romans 8:14-16

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship/daughtership. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
